Safety first
Safety is a top priority when shipping gardening tools. It's important to ensure they are securely packed and transported, from wrapping sharp items to disposing of hazardous materials responsibly.
Additionally, for safety reasons, please note that some couriers prohibit packages containing blades of any kind. We strongly advise checking the courier's service information regarding specific restrictions before shipping your items.

Before shipping any gardening implements, make sure you:
- Employ sturdy packing materials to wrap and tape sharp-edged equipment such as hedge shears, blades, and leaf rakes.
- Drain any fuel from power tools such as lawnmowers, leaf blowers, or snow blowers.
- Ensure power tools are thoroughly drained of any remaining power - and be sure to check the service rules for shipping devices with batteries.
- Consolidate all long-handled items securely together (e.g., shovels and brushes).
Packaging materials
Utilising proper packaging materials for gardening tools is essential and will help ensure secure handling and transportation. Here's a quick checklist for the materials you'll need:
- A strong, suitably-sized box which the garden tools will fit inside
- Packaging tape
- Padding material (bubble wrap, kraft paper or loose fill polystyrene)
- Edge protectors (optional)
How to pack your gardening tools
To securely pack your gardening tools for shipping, begin by selecting a sturdy cardboard box of appropriate size. It should be large enough to hold all the tools without them touching any of the edges. The edges of the tools must not protrude from the box in any way.
Line the bottom of the box with packing peanuts, crumpled paper, or bubble wrap to create a cushioning layer. Individually wrap each garden tool in bubble wrap or foam to shield them from scratches and impacts. Make sure each item is tightly packed with at least 5cm of cushioning between them and the walls of the box.
For tools with sharp edges or delicate parts, consider using polystyrene or foam edge protectors. Arrange the tools with the larger and heavier ones at the bottom and lighter ones on top.

If possible, package similar tools together in pairs for added stability. Seal the box with quality adhesive parcel tape using an H-taping method (put tape along the long and short edges of your top flaps, forming a letter H). Be mindful not to overdo it for international shipments as customs may need to open your parcel to inspect the contents.
